BRUCE PENNAMPED: In terms of child custody disputes, parents tend to emotionalize them to a level that interferes with probably a resolution that might well be in the child's best interests. Our job is to try to help them work through that in a fashion that's less emotional.
We have extensive experience in resolving child custody and parenting time issues. Our approach is to try to resolve those in a fashion other than through the court system, which is the least desirable way to have any interaction with your family in the practice area.
Our clients are always concerned, and rightfully so, that somehow they're going to be disenfranchised from their children. We can try to calm our client's fears and help them work through the process by virtue of the range of experience that we've had with the system, the various ways that the system deals with those issues. But more importantly, we can try to get them out of the system, into a forum that's more designed to deal with them in a less conflictual basis.
In almost all instances we try to resolve what we call kid issues through forms of alternative dispute resolution, either directly with the parties through mediation or through the assistance of an outside expert to try to have the parents arrive at a mutual plan that's in the child's best interests.
